HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Murder charges are being filed today against the Hancock County man is accused of shooting another man before engaging in a standoff with authorities Tuesday night. Hancock County Chief Deputy Don Bass told WLOX News Gary Topham, 55, is being charged with the murder of Bruce Necaise. Necaise died at USA Medical Center in Mobile overnight.
Topham and Neciase lived together at the Deer Wood Road property where the incident occurred according to Bass. Authorities are still trying to piece together what exactly what led to the violence, but believe Topham shot Necaise during an argument.
Investigators say Topham fired numerous shots at them as he holed up in a barn. Topham surrendered after deputies fired tear gas into the structure.
Describing how the standoff ended, Bass said, "Everything went perfect. There was no hitch in the operation. When you can get your suspect out of a situation like that and no one (else) is harmed, it's a perfect situation."
Hancock County investigators, along with officials from the Mississippi Crime Lab and the District Attorney's office are spending Wednesday processing the scene and gathering more evidence. Topham is expected to face additional charges, but Bass said investigators must finish their work before those charges are filed.
