It's Pancake Day for Gulfport Kiwanis Club

Posted: Updated:
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

For 57 years the Gulfport Kiwanis Club has served up pancakes and sausages for a good cause.

The pancake breakfast, lunch and dinner is held every year at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Gulfport. The meal started at 7:00 this morning and will run until 7:00 tonight.

Here are some of the astounding numbers. More than 10,000 links of sausages will be cooked today, more than 10,000 pancakes flipped, and more than 2500 people served.

Officials with the Kiwanis Club say they plan on raising about $12,000 from this year's event, which costs $5 for an all-you-can-eat meal. The vast majority of that money will be spent on various causes supported by the Kiwanis Club which are mostly based in the Gulfport school system and mostly aimed at helping children.

Doug Walker was there this morning when the first flapjacks were being flipped and he'll have more on this story later tonight on WLOX News and on WLOX.com.
