HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Officials at USA Medical Center in Mobile confirm that Bruce Necaise, the man allegedly shot by 55-year-old Gary Topham, has died.

Hancock County investigators tell WLOX News Necaise was taken first to Garden Park Medical Center, before being transferred to USA Medical Center to undergo surgery.

Officials at Alabama hospital tell WLOX News Necaise died around 3:00 this morning.

While Necaise was being rushed to the hospital, his alleged assailant was reportedly shooting at Hancock County deputies.  Investigators said Topham barricaded himself in a barn and stayed there for almost two hours.  He was taken into custody Tuesday night after SWAT team members fired tear gas into the barn and forced the suspect to surrender.

No word yet on what charges Topham will face.
