Numerous shots fired at Hancock County deputies

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Hancock County investigators have a suspect in custody after an apparent a shooting spree on Deerwood Road.

Chief Deputy Don Bass says the man who barricaded himself in a home fired numerous shots at officers.  WLOX News has not received reports of any shots hitting officers.  Earlier, one person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to a leg.  But, that victim hasn't been identified.

WLOX News has not been told who the suspect is, or why he started this standoff.

Al Showers tells us deputies fired tear gas into the home to force the suspect to surrender.

Just before deputies launched the tear gas canister, reporters could hear law enforcement personnel saying they were about to enter the home.
