Smashed, then stranded in Seattle

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The weather was wet.  The temperatures were chilly.  The game got ugly early.  And then, the New Orleans Saints couldn't escape their Pacific Northwest nightmare.

The Seattle Seahawks raced out to a 27-7 halftime lead, and then cruised to a 34-7 win over the Saints.  At 11-1, Seattle clinched a playoff spot, and all but locked up home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

As for the 9-3 Saints, the drubbing may have been the worst game Drew Brees ever played while wearing a black and gold uniform.  Brees threw for less than 200 yards.  And for the first time since 2006, a Sean Payton coached New Orleans team scored just seven points.

After the game, the Saints learned they'd be sleeping in Seattle.  The team's plane reportedly had mechanical issues.  So, instead of flying home, players checked into a Seattle hotel.  They're expected to fly home and end their nightmare in Seattle later this afternoon.

New Orleans is now tied for first place in the NFC South with Carolina.  And the Panthers come to the Mercedes Benz Superdome Sunday night for a critical clash with the Saints.
