AUSTIN, TX (RNN) - Vanderbilt attempted a last-minute charge but fell a little short, losing to Texas 70-64 as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

The Commodores (4-3) grabbed the first two points of the game before the Longhorns (7-1) scored eight unanswered and held on to the lead for the rest of the game. Texas outscored Vanderbilt 31-25 in the first half, but both teams scored 39 in the second, thanks to a late charge by the Commodores. They would come within one point of the Longhorns with 34 seconds left in the game before Texas scored a couple of free throws and a 3-pointer to extend their lead.

Vanderbilt outscored Texas on free throws, making 15-of-21 compared to the Longhorns' 15-of-29.

Eric McClellan led the Commodores with 22 points.

This was Vanderbilt's second road loss of the season and their last road game until conference play in January.

Texas' win gives the Big 12 a slight 2-1 lead so far in the 2013 Big 12/SEC Challenge. No. 17 Iowa State defeated Auburn the same night. Alabama defeated Texas Tech on Nov. 14.
