WEBSTER CO., KY (WFIE) -

A jury has cleared a Webster County man accused of running over a man at a soccer field.

The defendant, 76-year-old Jimmy Frederick, is the husband of the Mayor of Dixon. His trial started on Monday and wrapped up sooner than expected.

The jury found Frederick not guilty on all charges, including assault.

It all stemmed over an incident at a soccer field at Baker Park. Witnesses say that was where Frederick hit a man with his tractor. 14 News was told it was all because the soccer league did not want to pay a $250 fee to use the fields.

Frederick admitted he was the one who tore up the field. He claimed what he was doing was routine maintenance.

His wife Linda, the Mayor of Dixon, called the situation a "miscommunication." Whatever it was it resulted in that confrontation on the field involving the tractor.

Frederick was arrested and charged with assault, terroristic threatening and wanton endangerment. The following week, he was arrested again after being accused of going into a city building against a judge's orders.

Volunteers have since repaired those fields at Baker Park.
