Newport woman charged with reckless homicide following death of baby

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) -

A Newport woman has been charged with reckless homicide, months after the death of her baby in August.

Authorities say the incident happened on August 21 in an apartment near the intersection of 10th and Patterson Street in Newport.

Liam James McKenzie was pronounced dead at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on August 21, just one day after he turned 5-months-old.

The baby's mother, 29-year-old Amanda McKenzie, told police she fell asleep in the bathtub with her infant son in her arms.

Mckenzie was arrested by Newport Police on Monday. She is being held in the Campbell County jail on a $25 thousand bond.

Mckenzie is also charged with being a persistent felony offender
