UPDATE: Driver identified in fatal Chesterfield crash

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Chesterfield Police are investigating a two vehicle crash that happened on Jeff Davis Highway near 288. A State Police helicopter surveyed the damage from the sky-- that road closed for nearly seven hours.

Chesterfield Police say an overturned Kia Sportage was being driven by 32 year-old Rachel Lynn Lizardi-Cabollero. They tell us she crossed into the southbound lane crashing into a red Dodge pickup truck. Lizardi-Cabollero was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver and two passengers in the Dodge pickup were transported to Chippenham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Earl Compton travels Jeff Davis frequently during the week says he's seen a number of accidents happen here in the past year.

"I come back from McGuire just the other day and this road was backed up for 5 miles because of accident from speeding. people speeding. people speed way too much," Compton said.

Compton believes there could possibly be a solution that would help put an end to the danger on what he calls a dangerous stretch of highway.

"I think they ought to put up something on top of the hill there should be some time of warning and maybe a stop light somewhere that would slow people down people need to learn to slow down vehicles run too fast nowadays," Compton said.

The accident is still being investigated by Chesterfield Police.
