NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A fuel tanker rolled over in New Hanover County spilling fuel and closing roads late Saturday night.

According to authorities, the intersection of Highway 421 and Interstate 140 was closed while crews cleared the scene.

Authorities said the tanker was carrying 6,500 gallons of #2 Diesel Fuel at the time of the accident.

Some of the fuel leaked out of the tanker, and officials say Southeastern Response was on scene collecting about 1,000 gallons that spilled out.

Haz-Mat technicians from the state's Regional Response Team determined the fuel leaked from three holes in the container. The fuel was unloaded from the tanker instead of trying to patch the holes.

Officials say the fuel that spilled from the tanker did not reach any bodies of water, but it collected in nearby containment ponds that were dry.

No injuries were reported.

The Regional Response Team that covers the Cape Fear region is located in Wilmington. It is one of seven in the state.

The Wilmington Fire Department, New Hanover County Fire and Rescue, New Hanover County Sheriff's Office and State Highway Patrol responded to this incident, with coordination through New Hanover County Emergency Services.
