A 27-year-old Olathe man is accused of robbing an Olathe sex shop at gunpoint and hitting several vehicles during a 30-minute chase.

Antwoine Anthony is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail. He could be transferred to the Johnson County Jail as soon as Monday afternoon.

The Johnson County District Attorney's Office is expected to charge Anthony.

Cirilla's Adult Store at 1848 E. Santa Fe was robbed at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Olathe police said.

Wearing a gray hoodie, the robber fled in a black Hyundai with temporary tags, Olathe police said. An Olathe police officer began to pursue the man. The Kansas Highway Patrol's chopper joined the chase at Interstate 435 and Midland Drive.

Officers pursued the man on highways and streets in Johnson and Wyandotte counties. Because of the traffic, police did not use stop sticks.

The man hit several cars in Kansas City, KS, including at 12th Street and Minnesota Avenue and 13th Street and Minnesota. The man eventually hit two vehicles at 11th Street and Grandview Boulevard, which is where the chase ended. The car lost at least one tire.

Anthony was checked out for cuts and bruises. No one else was injured.

A KHP trooper said the chase covered many miles during the 30 minutes. Officers explained that they didn't stop the chase because he was a wanted man who was putting others in danger.

"The fact is that this was an armed robbery, he had already displayed a weapon at somebody and threatened them," Lt. Jim Oehm of the Kansas Highway Patrol said. "We had to take any type of crime like that seriously, and this is a bad guy who needed to be caught."

Olathe and KCK officers wouldn't say whether the man is wanted in connection with other crimes, including other Cirilla's. At least two Cirilla's in the area have been robbed in recent months.

The Olathe store was back open by 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
