PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) -

State Police are investigating a single car crash that killed a 7 year old Maryland boy on I-95 in Prince George County.

Around 9:11 p.m. Friday troopers responded I-95 North near mile marker 39. They say the driver 28 year old Jeffery Higgs ran off the left side of the roadway, overcorrected causing the vehicle to run off the right side of the road striking several trees.

Higgs was flown to VCU Medical center with serious non-life threatening injuries. His 3 year old daughter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. His son, Tyli D Ajuan Higgs died at the scene.

It remains under investigation if any of the occupants were wearing a safety belt or in a proper child safety restraint device. Charges are pending against the driver.

All lanes of 95 northbound were closed for approximately 30 minutes before the left lane was re-opened to traffic.  All lanes were re-opened at approximately 3:00 a.m. Saturday.
