High 5: Memphis Police Association holds annual toy drive

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) –The Memphis Police Association not only works to protect us, but also makes sure special needs children have a Merry Christmas, through their annual Hearts of Giving Toy Drive.

MPA President Michael Williams said, "We're out here for the charitable foundation today because we're trying to collect toys. We understand that we have to have a vested interest in the community and we're trying to give back."

"On the 20th of December we're going to be having a party at the Pink Palace for special needs and underprivileged kids that have been identified by police officers throughout the community," Williams said.

He goes on to say, "We're out here today asking the citizens if you have anything extra, please donate a toy; so that we can provide a Christmas to those who may not be able to and to those who are in special need at this time."

Beverly, who didn't give her last name said, "I'm a retired teacher, I love kids. And I love the police because they do so much for us in this community. So I donated some money ‘cause it's such a good cause."

Williams said, "It's a trying time in the city of Memphis and it's everybody responsibility to give back at this time."

The Memphis Police Association will be out collecting Saturday morning at the Wal-Mart located at 7525 Winchester Road beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m.
