GLADSTONE, MO (KCTV) -

A vehicle smashed into a Northland Starbucks coffee shop Friday morning, and eight were injured.

Gladstone police confirmed that five ambulances were ordered to the scene. Eight were treated at the scene with five requiring transportation to area hospitals, according to the Gladstone Fire Department.

None of the injuries were considered serious. Flying glass caused some of the injuries.

"It sounded like an oxygen tank that someone let off," Lisa Parker said. "It kept going."

Parker was treated and released from an area hospital after hospital staff checked out an injury to her leg.

The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. at 6410 N. Prospect Ave. This is near Antioch Road and 65th Street.

Parker had her back turned and didn't know the vehicle was barreling toward her. A quick-thinking friend yanked her away. One of the Toyota's front tires wound up where Parker was sitting.

"She (her friend) said it was like something you see on TV. When it dawned on her what was going on, she grabs and pulls me out of the way," Parker explained. "If she hadn't, it would have injured me pretty badly."

A newer model Toyota SUV wound up completely inside the building. Some witnesses said that a woman in her 30s or 40s accidentally hit the accelerator rather than the brakes.

The driver told Parker that she believes the Toyota had a mechanical issue.

"She said the throttle stuck open all of a sudden and she couldn't stop it and she went into the curb and the building," Parker said.

Ironically, she had sought the coffee shop as a refuge from the Black Friday madness. Instead, she said chaos found her.

The windows are boarded up and the Starbucks closed until repairs can be made.
