Culleoka woman shot, killed by husband after argument over shoes

CULLEOKA, TN (WSMV) -

A Maury County woman was shot and killed Thursday evening after a dispute with her husband at their Culleoka home, a Maury County official told the Columbia Daily Herald.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the home on Moore Lane after 8 p.m., where they found 59-year-old Patricia M. Cothran still breathing but unresponsive, the Daily Herald reported. She stopped breathing while emergency workers attempted to render aid.

The woman's husband, James L. Cothran, 70, reportedly told investigators he shot his wife after she threatened him with a large kitchen knife following an argument over the shoes he was wearing in the living room.

The man was released after speaking with investigators, and no charges have been filed, based on his claim of self-defense.
