Boulevard Bolt runners help homeless charities

BELLE MEADE, TN (WSMV) -

Many people laced up their sneakers and took to the streets to get a head start on that turkey dinner for a great cause.

More than 8,600 people took part in Belle Meade's Boulevard Bolt race Thursday morning.

The event is ranked one of the five largest 5-mile races in the country.

This race is more than just a chance to burn calories. It's also a fundraiser for dozens of homeless charities in Nashville.

More than $2.5 million has been donated since the race began in 1994.

When the WLOX First Alert Weather Team issues an Alert Day for South Mississippi, it is because we believe the  weather will impact your day. The current Alert Day is because of the high rainfall totals we have seen with the potential for more rain. In fact, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Tuesday evening.
