Thanksgiving fire forces woman from home

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A house caught fire just after 11:00 Thanksgiving morning on O'Bannon Drive in Jackson.

The fire started in the attic and is believed to have stemmed from an electrical problem. Jackson fire investigators are still looking in to the cause.

There were two people inside the home at the time. One of those people did suffer from smoke inhalation but was not taken to the hospital.

The next door neighbor told WLBT she was shocked when she walked out her front door to see black smoke.

Charlotte Veal says, "I was in there cooking and come outside and smoke was coming out of the attic and fire trucks were out here. A lot of black smoke was coming out of the attic."

Four Jackson Fire Department trucks lined O'Bannon Drive which sits just off Medgar Evers Blvd. near Interstate 220. Veal says she is thankful for the firefighters fast response time.

Veal says, "Real quick, they came quick."

The power was cut off. Entergy crews were at the home to completely cut the power off to prevent another fire from happening.
