SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Springfield police are investigating two fatal accidents Thursday.

Police said the first crash happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday and one teen was killed.

According to police, the driver, identified as 17-year-old Allison Dwarska of Springfield, lost control coming around the curve, and uncontrollably crashed into a ditch near 1780 Roosevelt Ave. near the entrance to Blunt Park.

Officials said Dwarska was rushed to the hospital by medical personnel, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to police, the car engine caught on fire and firefighters arrived on the scene to put it out.

Officer Robert Kalin of the Fatal Squad in the Springfield Police Department Traffic Bureau is currently conducting an investigation on the accident. The driver of the vehicle, also 17 years of age, is facing possible charges.

Police said the second crash happened around 4 a.m. Thursday and a person was killed.

According to police, the 23-year-old was driving a Mini Cooper when the car crashed. Police found the car pinned against a utility pole and a tree. Police also said spray paint marks left by an accident reconstruction team were visible around a traffic island at Parker Street and Oak Hollow Road, where a fire hydrant was severed.

The marks trace the path of the car back across Parker Street, where the vehicle came to rest at the corner of Ellendale Circle.

Police said firefighters had to remove the driver from the car.

There were no passengers.

Police said Parker Street was closed in the area of Ellendale Circle as a result of the crash. The road reopened at 8 a.m., when the car was removed from the scene.

These two accidents remain under investigation.
