Shoppers pack grocery store

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Shoppers were packed in McDade's Market in Maywood Mart Thanksgiving eve, picking up last minute items in preparation for Thanksgiving day.

Check out registers were full as shoppers stock up on last minute items.

Gloria Scott says, "I'm getting some pumpkins because the kids want to make pumpkin pie in the morning," said Gloria Scott.

Scott says she is a frequent shopper at McDade's Market and is surprised how calm shoppers are as Thanksgiving day is fast approaching.

"Usually people are frantic," said Scott. "No, easy parking, people are very friendly and nice so, it was a very nice experience coming in."

"We'll see anywhere from three to four times the traffic flow of a normal day," said McDade's Manager Mark Larson.

Larson, says he is seeing most shoppers leave with fresh produce and meat.

"We sell a lot of specialty items," said Larson. "Folks will pick up cranberry relish and some of your more traditional desserts; caramel cakes and pecan pies."

Food isn't the only thing shoppers are filling their baskets with. Next door at McDade's Wine and Spirits, Egg Nog is a big seller along with the first wine of the harvest.

Scott says the best part of last minute shopping at McDade's is the fact it is locally owned and operated.

"Here, I feel like it's my second home," said Scott. "Everybody treats me with a name it's not like I'm just a number. So, it's actually awesome to shop local.

McDade's Market will be open until 2p.m. Thanksgiving Day.
