Tears and hugs as families were reunited for the Thanksgiving holiday

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Krystle Pauley tried to be as patient as she could waiting at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

"They were supposed to get in at 8:30."

Winter storms in the northeast caused a bit of delay, but three hours later her sister, brother-in-law and nephew were finally about to arrive from Indiana.

"I'm very excited, I haven't met my nephew yet," Pauley said.

Beaming with happiness, she ran up to them as soon as they walked out of security. Before saying 'Hi' to anyone, she grabbed her 11-month-old nephew, Ryder, to hug him for the very first time.

Behind them, tears of joy poured down Nanette Scalici's face. "I missed you so much," Scalici told her daughters.

She hugged them tight for several minutes before finally letting go and realizing one of her daughters looked different. "Oh my God, look at your hair," Scalici said.

Brittany and Jessica live in Indiana and Scalici has not seen them in four months.

"I'm very excited," she said. "It means so much, I'm excited. I have no words."

Rena Scheller shared the same joy as she hugged her daughter and said, "I've missed you, sweetheart."

Living 1,800 miles away from her daughter she only gets to see her twice a year.

"Oh my God, I'm so excited. We book it a couple of months ahead of time because Thanksgiving is her time. We have six children and nine grandchildren, but this is her time," Scheller said with a big smile.

Like the Scheller family, nothing was going to stop the Shiyous from sharing Thanksgiving together.

"We said we would drive to Atlanta to get him if we had to," Dawn Shiyou said about her husband, Adam.

Adam Shiyou works in Nebraska, but Dawn and their children live in South Mississippi. He is only able to come home once every three to six weeks. Luckily, this homecoming happened just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

"It's great, excellent," Adam Shiyou said.

"Yeah, we are happy he is home," Dawn Shiyou said holding her husband tight.
