PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Pass Christian is looking at ways to keep flood insurance rates lower for homeowners. Next month, Pass Christian will hold a public hearing to discuss recommended changes to the city's flood ordinance. And those changes could affect the city's flood rating.
The rating determines how much of a discount homeowners receive on their insurance premiums.
Mayor Chipper McDermott said right now Pass Christian has a rating of six. He said because of restructuring in the National Flood Insurance Program, Pass Christian will likely need to strengthen its building requirements to maintain that six rating.
The meeting is scheduled for December 17, 2013. The mayor said after that it will be up to the Board of Aldermen whether to adopt the recommendations.
