Is ice expected on our highways?

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There's good news from MDOT if you're traveling Monday to leave for the Thanksgiving holiday. MDOT does not expect any freeze-over conditions in Central Mississippi or in South Mississippi overnight.

There is a remote possibility that precipitation in the Delta may freeze over during the night time hours.

MDOT has trucks stationed at strategic locations. They will do the same in Central Mississippi if need be. The trucks contain the salt and slag they need to put on the roadways.

"We're just trying to make sure all of our trucks and spreaders are prepared in case we have to go out," said MDOT Public Information Officer Kenny Footé. "We'll meet again tomorrow and see what the weather reports say, and then we'll re-evaluate."

MDOT only takes care of the highways, interstates and overpasses. Any county roads or city roads will have to be taken care of by those local governments.

If you see anything on the roadways that should be reported as far as slick conditions, you're asked to call your municipality or county government.
