BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Every team remaining in the state football playoffs has talent. They would be in the position they are in if they didn't. Of course it takes a little luck to make it all the way to Jackson and obviously coaching is a key.
Undefeated St. Stanislaus has ripped of 12 consecutive victories and entertain Forrest County AHS at 7 in the Bay. Head coach Gabe Fertitta and his coaching staff have done an excellent job considering the Rockachaws failed to win a game in 2012... 0-9.
St. Stanislaus will unleash a high-octane offense led by senior quarterback Tyler Allen. The Rockachaws defense has also stood tall. Last week St. Stanislaus nipped Greene County 14-13 in the rain at Greene County.
In another 4A third round playoff game, Vancleave is at home, a date with Quitman. Bulldogs head coach Jim Bloomfield has guided Vancleave to a 7-5 record, having won 4 straight and 5 of their last 6 games. Senior quarterback Terren Crowley is the player who ignites Vancleave's offense and will once again be the key if Vancleave is to crack the 4A South State finals facing the Forrest Co. AHS-St. Stanislaus survivor next Friday.
In the 5A playoffs, Picayune travels to Wayne County in a second round playoff game. Maroon Tide head coach Dodd Lee has his team back in the playoffs for the 15th time over the last 18 seasons since he was named Picayune's head coach. He has built one of the most respected high school football programs in the state and in the South.
The Maroon Tide have posted a 9-2 record and face a very good Wayne County team, one that has 10 victories and 2 defeats.
WLOX will air the Friday Night Football Showdown during the 10 p.m. newscast on WLOX-ABC & WLOX-CBS.
Good luck to the Rockachaws, Bulldogs and Maroon Tide!
