Anchor Rebecca Powers leaving WLOX for more family time

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

WLOX News Anchor Rebecca Powers made a bittersweet announcement at the end of Monday's 10pm newscast: December 12th will be her last day in the anchor chair.

"I've decided to put my TV career on hold and spend more time with my husband and our two small children," she told viewers. "I know the next few weeks will be very emotional for me. So, I don't want to say too much right now. I'll get a chance to say an appropriate good-bye on the 12th. Just know I love you all, and I know I'm going to miss being in your living rooms each night."

Once news got out, so many WLOX viewers chimed in on Facebook with messages of support for Rebecca's decision to step away from work for her family.

Willetta Daniel Gales wrote, "Enjoy your time with your family. It's time well spent and you'll never get it back. Make memories that will take you into old age. The very best to you and yours."

Susan Perronne wrote, "We will miss you!!!! But family comes first no matter what. Your children will be grown and gone before you know it."

Rebecca said she will still be around South Mississippi, playing with "The Myles Sharp Band" and taking a more active role with Harrison County's CASA (court appointed special advocates).
