Hot dog vendor has been paying thousands in tickets awaiting ordinance decision

Posted: Updated:

A Springfield hot dog vendor who's been getting ticketed for three years while fighting a city ordinance will have to wait longer to see the law changed.

John Verducci has been operating a hot dog cart on Worthington Street for several years.

In 2009, the city enforced an ordinance saying food trucks couldn't be parked directly in front of restaurants.

On Monday night he spoke before City Council, hoping to get the ordinance reversed.

Since then, Verducci has paid thousands of dollars in tickets.

"In the meantime, I'm getting tickets and parking citations every time I go to work ... the fine has been $375 in three weeks," Verducci said.

The council voted to send the ordinance to committee to be discussed.
