Asgard motorcycle club kicks off 29th Annual Toy Run

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - As of Sunday, we're 37 days until Christmas a time for sharing and giving. And the Asgard Motorcycle Club decided to get a head start on collecting items for the needy Sunday afternoon.

A kickoff party at Fat Boys bar showed signs that the Asgard Motorcycle Club's 29th Annual Motorcycle Toy Run is almost here.

Bikers from Alabama to Louisiana turned out in droves to the party bearing toys and monetary donations.

"This kickoff party is to help raise money and toys for the needy children of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Our goal is to put a smile on every needy child's face this Holiday season," said Recall an Asgard member and toy run coordinator.

Aside from donating toys themselves, the way these bikers accumulate a mass amount of toys is by putting up collection boxes at different locations throughout the coast.

Last year the Asgard Motorcycle Club collected a tractor trailer full of toys this year they hope to do much more than that.

The Asgard toy run happens Sunday, December 1 and with well over 500 bikers expected to take part in the upcoming toy run, bikers said holding their kickoff party helps get the word out.

"The importance is to make sure that we give toys to all the needy kids in the area as much as we possible we can," said Big Lew an Asgard member and treasurer of the club.

"Well it makes me very proud to be a member and happy to try to help the community. And help the needy children of the Gulf Coast. Not everyone is fortunate to be able to afford Christmas presents and so that's what we're here for," Recall said.

These bikers don't claim to be Santa Claus or his elves, but through their efforts, they're able to give underprivileged children in South Mississippi a brighter Christmas.
