Aggies win close one against Rice, 68-65

COLLEGE STATION, TX (RNN) – With two key players on the bench, the Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Rice Owls in a close-scoring affair, winning 68-65.

The Aggies were without starting guard J-Mychal Reese (suspension) and guard Fabyon Harris (sustained a concussion at practice) in the 189th meeting between the schools that are less than 100 miles apart.

Texas A&M (3-0) leads the all-time series with Rice (1-2) 107-82.

With the score tied 65-65 with 26 seconds left, a defensive rebound by Antwan Space led to a Jordan Green 3-point jumper with less than seven seconds left. A missed 3-point jump shot by Rice's Austin Ramljak with two seconds left gave A&M the go-ahead win.

Junior forward Kourtney Roberson led all Aggies scorers with 19 points. Roberson also had nine rebounds and played 27 minutes. Freshman forward Davonte Fitzgerald scored 14 points off the bench and played 25 minutes.

The undefeated Aggies continue their undefeated home stand against the Prairie View A&M (1-2) on Tuesday.

    A puppy rescued from an alleged dog fighting ring in Wayne County last month has found a permanent loving home.  Drake, a four-month old male mixed breed, was adopted Saturday.  He had serious wounds when he and eight other dogs were seized from a property on Lacey Road in late January.  They were taken to Southern Cross Animal Rescue in Jones County to be rehabilitated.  Volunteers with SCAR said Drake made steady progress and was ready for a forever home.&nbs...
