GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The cost of keeping the lights on could be going up again, if you're a Mississippi Power customer. The company sent word Friday it has asked the Mississippi Public Service Commission to approve a rate increase to recover fuel costs.
What does that mean to you? A 2.66 percent rate hike next year. That amounts to about $3.54 per thousand kilowatt hours of electricity.
The PSC must okay the increase, but it's pretty much a sure thing. Regulations allow Mississippi Power to recover increased fuel costs directly from customers, but it cannot make a profit on fuel costs.
