GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - On March 25, 2013, the Harrison County Utility Authority held a special meeting where Attorney Jim Simpson announced the termination of SH Anthony's multi-million dollar contract.
"Based on the information provided to the board, the board feels termination of the contract is appropriate," Simpson said.
But since that time, the utility authority has not found a new company to do the job. So SH Anthony is still on the payroll.
"They are still operating the facilities and we still have a contract through that," Donald Scharr said. "It's certainly a complex system of equipment and you just can't bring somebody in overnight. "
Scharr has been the director of the Harrison County Utility Authority since June 20. He took over after long time director Kamran Pahlavan was fired over conflict of interest concerns involving his purchase of a car, which was financed by contractor SH Anthony. That conflict lead the utility authority to terminate SH Anthony's contract.
"We certainly continued to manage that contract and they're doing a good job during this time period," stated Scharr.
He said the Harrison County Utility Authority has been advertising the job and proposals are being accepted.
"We'll have a review of the technical adequacy of the proposal and then we'll do interviews with a real short list."
The Harrison County Utility Authority received a total of seven proposals. Scharr said a new contractor will replace SH Anthony on December 31st.
