BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Bay High Athletic Director Will Seymour spoke highly of Lady Tigers senior Christa Reed, calling it a great day for one of our Lady Tiger basketball players.
Before the entire student body inside Lucas Auditorium, and her mom and dad seated at her side, Reed signed a basketball scholarship with Vanderbilt. Almost every major university was interested in her basketball talents.
"There were too many to recall, I can't remember the exact number but Vanderbilt has a great education and the coaches were great too," Reed said
She also wanted to play in the Southeastern Conference.
Last season, Reed helped guide coach Debbie Triplett's Bay High Lady Tigers to the 4A State Championship, reeling off an undefeated season at 36 and 0.
She netted 24 points and seven assists per game and was named Mississippi's Gatorade Player of the Year.
Besides her athletic skills, Reed also excels in the classroom. She's a member of the National Honor Society, carries a 4.12 grade point average and made a 26 on her ACT. She says academics come first. She also has big plans for the future... a possible career in the WNBA.
"The WNBA is a goal I'm looking forward to, but I have a Plan B."
And what is that?
"To study pre-pharmacy and open up my own pharmacy practice," she said.
Christa Reed's next goal is to lead Bay High to back-to-back 4A State Championship titles.
6-foot-6 Jessica Powers of Pearl River Central signed a basketball scholarship with Southern Miss. She averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks per game last season.
Devin Booker of Moss Point made it official today signing a basketball scholarship with Kentucky. Booker netted 30 points and seven rebounds per game during the 2012-3013 season.
St. Martin's Ed Simpson is taking his basketball talents to Middle Tennessee State. The 6-foot-3 senior bagged 21 points a game last season.
Harrison Central Red Rebels baseball standout Bobby Bradley signed with LSU. Bradley is so talented he could be a high pick in the major leagues.
Gulfport Admirals infielder Daniel Keating inked with Southern Miss and George County pitcher Justin Steele will be joining Keating in Hattiesburg.
