SUV plows into South Jackson home

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Nicole Babb and her mother got the jolt of their lives Tuesday morning, at her mom's home at the corner of Dona Avenue and Simpson Road in South Jackson.

"It was just a loud boom. I actually thought a tree had fell," said Babb.

But the gaping hole in their garage isn't the work of a tree. It's the work of a Chevy SUV.

"I actually looked through the garage first, that's when I seen the truck was still there," Babb added.

She says the woman driving the vehicle must have taken the corner too quickly, trying to avoid utility work in the area and trying to get one of her two children to Sykes Elementary School nearby. She had two children with her. One of them was a baby.

"I heard a baby cry," Babb said. "I seen AMR getting them out, putting them in the back of the ambulance but it didn't appear anything was wrong with them."

Babb's friend, Keith Logan, was expecting her to visit, but then he learned about the crash.

"I didn't get the concept, how did someone run into her house," said Logan. "I came over here. I'm just glad nobody was really hurt. That was bad."

Babb says the woman driving the SUV appeared shaken and knocked around, but otherwise ok.

Babb says her house is insured.
