Harrison Central ready for 6A State Playoffs at Brandon Friday night

LYMAN, MS (WLOX) - Coach Steve Jones had his Red Rebels out on the football turf this afternoon, fine tuning Harrison Central's game plan for second ranked Brandon.

The Red Rebels secured its first trip to the state playoffs since the 2009 season, winning 4 of their last 5 games.

Harrison Central's offense has 8 sophomore's and juniors in the starting lineup.

Defensively, the Red Rebels face a Brandon team that spreads the football around led by 6-2, 210 pound junior quarterback Gardner Minchew.

Harrison Central has a strong defense, one that has stellar defensive backs Tito Windham and Lashard Durr. Windham says he likes the match up.

"Basically just lock-down the receiver and hopefully he throw it and we'll pick it off."

Coach Jones also likes the match up.  He said,"

We told the kids today prior to practice that Brandon is averaging 35 points per game and only giving up 13 and they're a spread team and again we think that they're throwing into the strength of our defense. We feel like we have a good pass rush and a great secondary so we feel like we match up with them really well."

Brandon ripped off 10 wins in 11 games and present a strong challenge for the Red Rebels.

The Harrison Central-Brandon match up will be one of the featured games on the Friday Night Football Showdown on WLOX-ABC beginning Friday night at 10:35.
