BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The funeral services for 30-year-old Atira Hughes-Smith and her seven-year-old son Jaidon Hill were held 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Brandon.

Police have estimated nearly 1,000 people were in attendance for the funeral.

Atira, Jaidon and Laterry Smith, Atira's husband, were found dead on November 5, in Copiah County.

The family of Atira Hughes Smith and Jaidon Hill said they appreciated the community's support and trying to pull together during the tragic time.

It was a funeral, but there were smiles because relatives leaned on their faith and faith in the community to sustain them during their grief.

"We wanted today to be a celebration and a homegoing, because we are confident we know that Atira and Jaidon are with the Lord. And this family and this community is very Christian based," said Trent Walker, family spokesperson.

Laterry Smith's service was Saturday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stuart confirmed the three bodies found inside an abandoned house off Shelby Road on Tuesday were those of the missing family. Stuart also said all three were shot.

The house where the family was found was about a mile from where the family's car was found.

Family members and friends say they last heard from Atira Smith four days earlier on November 1.

Timothy Burns, the first person arrested in the case, is being held without bond. He is charged with arson and two counts of murder.

Cedric Mason, the second man arrested in connection with the murders of the family, has been denied bond in Copiah County Justice Court. Mason is charged with capital murder.

Mason was on parole from the Mississippi Department of Corrections on a marijuana possession charge.

Investigators still have not released a motive in the murders or how the suspects and victims may have known one another.
