JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Rarely, is a day in court a happy occasion. But Jackson County Chancery Court was all smiles Friday morning for 10 families and their newly adopted children.
In celebration of National Adoption Day, the Jackson County Court Appointed Special Advocates sponsored a mass adoption. The ceremony permanently united 14 children with their former foster families.
Adoption Supervisor Sherba Hinton said sometimes the road home for these kids is long, but this day makes it all worth while.
"It's a long process," Hinton explained. "We have to go through termination of parental rights, and courts. We have to provide a lot of services to maintain the children in the home and we ask the families to be patient and they do. It's a team approach."
Jackson County CASA has about 80 volunteers who work with the courts to help make the best possible decisions regarding permanent placement of the children for whom they advocate.
