OXFORD, MS -

(WMC-TV) - Investigators arrested a 25-year-old man in connection to the death of a principal and her son Friday morning. The suspect is accused of shooting his mother and 12-year-old half-brother to death.

Regis Mister, 25, was living with both the victims in a home on County Road 301 in Mississippi.

Mister reportedly has no previous encounters with police. Although, he was being investigated by the state auditor's office for possible embezzlement while employed as a deputy for the Yalobusha County Sheriff's Office. Mister, was also a school resource officer, according to DA John Champion

Dr. Carol Lavett Gary, 43, and her son, Patrick Earl Gary, 12, were found dead around 6 a.m.

According to Water Valley School District Superintendent Kim Chrestman, Dr. Gary was a teacher for 12 years before becoming principal at Davidson Elementary School.

Dr. Gary is described by many as a "rock in the community" of Water Valley, which is about 19 miles south of Oxford, Mississippi.

"She loved children and the children were her reason for working in the school system," said Calandra Morgan, who worked with Dr. Gary. "The Bible tells us to let our light shine and that's what she did. We knew that she meant business, but she loved God and allowed his love to shine through her and love others."

Morgan showed up at Dr. Gary's house Friday morning after learning that her friend and coworker had been killed.

Word spread quickly through the small community.

"First of all, she was a woman of faith," agreed Chrestman. "She was highly professional, she wanted things done right."

Supt. Chrestman added that Dr. Gary had high expectations for her faculty. It made them better teachers and people.

"You could not help but love her; nothing but good came out of her mouth," said Chrestman.

By Friday afternoon, a makeshift memorial had been erected at the foot of the school sign.

"We have truly lost an angel," said Morgan. "She will be missed."

Classes at Davidson Elementary School went on as scheduled Friday, though many parents picked their children up early.
