Just a few decades ago, most of us did not realize that by now we would all have a personal communicator with which we could talk or message anybody, anywhere, any time. Today's technology is wonderful. We all love the anybody anywhere, anytime capability. But just because we can does not mean we should.
There are definitely times when you should give 100% of your attention to the task at hand. When you are guiding a machine that weighs thousands of pounds along with hundreds of other people doing the same thing just feet apart from one another and lots of fixed obstacles, looking away from the path of no collisions to check out your communicator is not a good idea.
Nearly 80% of all crashes involve driver distraction during the last 3 seconds before the incident. Don't learn the hard way that distracted driving causes accidents.
If that doesn't convince you, maybe the Mississippi Highway Patrol will. We agree with the highway patrol's Pay Attention or Pay a Fine campaign.
That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
