Moss Point's Jerry Alexander Is Living Proof Nice Guys Can Finish On Top

Moss Point Coach Jerry Alexander has become a legend in the high school ranks. Since taking over the Tigers head coaching job Coach Alexander has guided Moss Point to 4 State Championship titles 1991, 1996, 1997, and 2000. In 10 seasons under Alexander the Tigers have run off 111 victories and only 23 losses. Alexander doesn't take the credit saying, I think the success we've had is the result of the players we have had, the coaching staff we have and the community support. It's a combination of a lot of things and not just me."

Jerry Alexander is a nice guy and yes nice guy's do finish on top. 8 more wins and Coach Alexander will become Moss Point's all-time winningest coach.. surpassing the late great Billy Wayne Miller. He's a special person. Alexander says, "I'm a teacher. I think I do a pretty good job of administrating and I let my coaches coach. I remember as an assistant coach all coaches didn't get to coach all the time. Our coaches are responsible for a certain area and they're expected to do it."

College programs have courted Coach Alexander. They would love to see him leave the high school ranks for their respective college. He's not budging, saying, "I'm going to retire in Moss Point. Matter a fact I can retire right now. I have no intentions of retiring. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing as long as I enjoy it."

Coach Alexander is a humble person. He hasn't let success go to his head and I bet there's not one coach in the state who has ever had an unkind word to say about Jerry Alexander.
