MARINGOUIN, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a man was flown to the hospital by helicopter after he repeatedly stabbed himself in the parking lot of a sheriff's office substation Tuesday morning.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office said the incident happened at its substation in Maringouin around 9 a.m.

The man's name was not released, but IPSO said he is from Maringouin.

According to deputies, it started when a woman went to the substation to file a complaint against her boyfriend.

The woman reportedly told deputies she had been hit in the face by her boyfriend. Officials said while she was recounting the incident, the man arrived at the substation.

He allegedly pulled out a knife and began stabbing himself several times in the chest.

Air Med was called to the scene to fly the man to an area hospital. Authorities reported he's listed in stable condition.

The sheriff's office added the man could face charges upon his release from the hospital.
