Final Honor Flight ready to roll

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight program will take one final trip to the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC this Tuesday.

This will be the seventh and final journey to the nation's capitol to see the place that honors our WWII veterans.

The organization's goal when they started this, was to take 500 Mississippi WWII veterans to the memorial. They actually reached that number with the most recent flight in early October.

Since the demand was still great, volunteers scheduled one last flight.

The Honor Flight committee has done an extraordinary job with each of these trips. Each trip costs about $80,000. A lot of generous corporations, businesses and individuals have donated to this very worthy cause.

It is always an exhausting, but emotional day for everyone involved.

Be sure to come out to the Gulfport/Biloxi International Airport at 7pm for the homecoming celebration. Let our veterans know how much they are loved and appreciated.

WLOX News will be going along on the trip, as we have every prior flight.
