BIRMINGHAM, AL (WAFF) -

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport re-opened Sunday evening after a threat of a suspicious package closed the airport for more than two hours.

Police confirmed a note was left in a bathroom threatening that an explosive device was deployed inside the terminal. As of 6:10 p.m., Aviation Avenue was re-opened and employees were let back into the facility. Police have not identified who left the threatening note.

Law enforcement officials responded to a threat around 4 p.m. The terminal was quickly evacuated.

Airport officials said a bomb threat was the cause and that the airport cleared away all staff and all planes were moved away from terminal.

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport also reported three flights inbound to Birmingham were diverted to Huntsville International Airport.
