Citizens and APD get fit in the gym

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The public had a chance to pump some iron with the Albany Police Department.

The "Workout with a Cop" event was held at Destiny's Fitness on Oglethorpe. Police say interacting with the public helps bridge a gap between police department and the community.

Participants were asked to bring a unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots for a chance to work out with a cop.

"If they have any concerns about us and the police department, we'll deal with that. If they just want to talk about everyday things, we can talk about everyday things. Just whatever they want to talk about. We just are having a good time. We're just doing public service for toys for tots.

Players from Pop Warner football also came out to show support.
