SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Residents of Savannah got together bright and early Saturday morning to take part in Savannah's first Woof-Woof 5K.

In an attempt to break a Guinness World Record for most dogs in costume, the attending pet owners were asked to dress their furry companions in costume for the event. Sadly, they did not break the current record. Along with attempting to break the world record, the 5K was held to raise money to fight dog cancer.

William Fernandez, an officer with the Savannah Chatham Metro K-9 Unit was also in attendance along with his dog/partner, unable to dress up in costume due to being on duty.

"It's very nice to get the community involved with the dogs and teach them and have everybody out. The department is here to support the community and show that our K-9's are friendly and show people what we do", said Officer  Fernandez.

All funds raised from the event benefits the Blue Buffalo Pet Cancer Research Foundation, Savannah's Hope Chest Foundation, and Savannah's Pet Rescue Agencies.

Around two hundred dogs turned up to the event dressed in snazzy costumes.
