Ride for Dave 'Shef' Sheffield Augusta Harley Davidson

Posted: Updated:
AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

For Michael Sheffield, it's nearly been a year since a motorcycle accident took his big brother Dave.

Sheffield said, "It was dusk. He was heading home and the intersection; it wasn't well lit.  A vehicle turned in front of him making a left hand turn."

Dave ‘Shef' Sheffield was gone on November 24th, 2012.

But the man everyone called ‘Shef' was a passionate veteran and an advocate for Wreath's Across America. So the Augusta Harley Davidson made sure that passion rode on Saturday, in a motorcycle ride just for him.

Event Organizer Donna Wiley said, "We are riding for Wreath's Across America and we can now put 100 wreaths at veteran's graves with the money we've already raised."

Officials said their goal was to raise 15 hundred dollars, but they beat that goal early on in the day, and the memorial ride raised over two thousand dollars at last count.

Sheffield said, "Dave was very proud of his military service and that's why Wreath's Across America was a natural choice for him. He's laid to rest at a Veteran's cemetery and now there's a wreath on his grave."

Dave's friends at Augusta Harley Davidson said they want this ride to be an annual event. And they think Dave would want that, too.

"I'm sure he's looking down," Wiley said," He's very proud."
