33 arrested in Athens drug round-up

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

An undercover operation by the Athens Police Department that lasted six months resulted in dozens of suspects being arrested on drug charges.

The investigation, known as "Operation Harvest Festival," aimed to crackdown on the city's drug problem. Surveillance and undercover drug buys resulted in 95 arrest warrants for 46 suspects.

Several of the charges included distribution and possession of a controlled substance. The warrants were served early Saturday morning.

Investigators seized various drugs during the operation, including pills, crack, cocaine, and marijuana. A number of guns and $8,000 in cash were also recovered. Officers found drugs hidden in all kinds of items, including cigarette packs and hairspray cans.

Police Chief Floyd Johnson said the department will follow up with each of these cases as they go through the judicial system. Johnson is also asking District Attorney Brian Jones to seek restitution from the defendants to reimburse taxpayers for the cost of this operation.

Police arrested 33 of the 46 suspects in the round-up. Officers continue to search for the remaining suspects. Those still sought by Athens police are:

  • Chase Mikkel Benford - Unlawful possession of marijuana 1st
  • Kristen Ann Cline - Unlawful distribution of controlled substance
  • Michael Anthony Hicks - Unlawful possession of marijuana 1st and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Carol Sue Hill - Unlawful distribution of controlled substance and conspiracy to distribute controlled substance
  • Rachel Machele Lovett – Unlawful distribution of controlled substance and conspiracy to distribute controlled substance
  • Stephanie Marie Minor – Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Kendall Maurice Mosley – Unlawful distribution of controlled substance
  • Kent Mason Nichols – Unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd and two counts of driving while revoked
  • Larence Gary Ricks – Three counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substance and two counts of conspiracy to distribute controlled substance
  • Lydia Gail Sawyers – Unlawful possession of controlled substance
  • Donald Ray Stinnett – Unlawful distribution of controlled substance, conspiracy to distribute controlled substance, operating vehicle without insurance, driving while revoked
  • Corey Denzell Watkins – Three counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substance, two counts of conspiracy to distribute controlled substance
  • Rickey Arnez Williams – Five counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substance
