WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - Volunteers from Habitat For Humanity Bay-Waveland Chapter joined forces with employees from Elliott Home Builders of Gulfport on Friday to take part in the United Way's Day of Caring.
The volunteers spent their time in Waveland. They made repairs on the home of 100-year-old Oreader Richardson. They replaced rotted wood on her back porch, repaired termite damage on her storage shed and helped her spruce up her yard.
The volunteers said it was a joy to lend a helping hand. Andrea West was one of the people working on Ms. Richardson's home. "We love United Way," she said. "We believe in everything it stands for, and we certainly believe in giving back. It's just so rewarding, especially after you meet Miss Rita. It couldn't be a more perfect assignment for us."
The United Way sponsors two primary caring days a year, where volunteers are assigned projects to help a person , business or organization.
