GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - It's the end of the week and Gulfport's chief engineer says he's still waiting for the report on the Lorraine Road bridge.
As we reported Thursday, Kris Riemann was told the final report would be released to Gulfport, Biloxi and Harrison County by the end of this week. But late Friday afternoon, Riemann sent a text to WLOX News saying he contacted Volkert engineers, inquired about the report, but hadn't heard anything.
The Lorraine bridge has been closed since June due to structural concerns.
Plans to replace the bridge have been in the works for years, but money has always been an issue. Riemann says during that time, the cost to replace the bridge has jumped from six million to nine million dollars. Gulfport, Biloxi and Harrison County have all agreed to pay toward the bridge work.
If it must be replaced, Riemann says it will take at least 18-months to build a new bridge.
