Judge denies new trial for man convicted of molesting adopted daughter

EVANS, GA (WFXG) -

A man convicted in 2011 of molesting his adopted daughter won't get a new trial, according to a court ruling.

Judge James Blanchard denied Scott Dean's motion for a new trial and his motion for a sentence modification, according to a court ruling released Thursday.

Dean, a former Columbia County commissioner and former Harlem mayor, made the requests in September after his adopted daughter publicly stated that her allegations against him were false, according to the court ruling.

During an evidentiary hearing on Oct. 4, Dean's adopted daughter, Silda Dean, testified and recanted her previous statements, according to the court ruling. Silda's foster mother and a social worker also testified that Silda told them her previous statements about her father were false.

But Blanchard said that even though Silda recanted her statement, it's not basis for a new trial.

Dean was convicted in September 2011 on two counts of child molestation by a Columbia County Grand Jury.
