A Gulfport mother's dying wish comes true

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - At just 27-years-old, Tanya Segura is battling cervical cancer and has been given less than six months to live. This week, Tanya and her family received a big surprise from the Dream Foundation and partner Grenetech.

Handing her a folder, the gentlemen told said, "Here you will have all the information you will need for your trip."

She opened up the folder and tears poured down her face. "Thank you so much," Tanya said.

For one week, Tanya, her husband, Chris, and two young girls will be able to forget about her illness and go to the happiest place on earth - Walt Disney World.

"I thank everybody from the bottom of my heart," Tanya said.

"I'm just excited," Chris said, looking at his wife with a big smile. "I'm just ready to get you there."

In addition to the vacation, the foundation showered them with gifts for the trip.

"I'm just so happy," Tanya said.

Seeing 4-year-old Chelzea and 9-year-old Brooke dressed up as princess brought a big smile to Tanya's face.

Brooke waved her wand and said, "I'm going to cast a spell on you and make you feel better."

With a smile Tanya told her girls, "I love you."

It is her positive attitude that left such an impression on Social Worker Donna Burks. Burks works at the Regional Cancer center where Tanya goes for treatments and nominated the Segura family for the Dream Foundation.

"She always has a smile on her face. She is just very friendly and a sweet, sweet person and I know that she cares so much about her children and wants the best for them, too," Burks said.

The young girls took off their tiaras and placed them on their mom's head, Chelzea said, "I want mommy to have wings too and be a princess."

This trip could be the last family vacation the Seguras ever go on together and for that opportunity, Tanya could not be more thankful.

"If it wasn't for you, I don't know how my kids would have a piece of mind and not always worry about me," Tanya said.
