BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A 15 foot long piece of concrete is hiding just two feet below the water's surface near the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge. That's what a crew from the Department of Marine Resources discovered Wednesday using a sidescan sonar. There's also a bit of rebar in the water.
All the obstructions were located on the west side of the bridge and south of the channel in an isolated area. A DMR spokesperson said the debris appears to be from the old Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
"Our staff will continue to coordinate with the Mississippi Department of Transportation to determine what action needs to be taken," said Melissa Scallan, Mississippi DMR Public Information Officer.
The DMR marked the hazard area and is warning boaters to stay clear of the area.
