Rayonier marks Jesup plant's $385M expansion

JESUP, GA (WTOC) -

From the outside, Rayonier's Jesup mill looks the same as it has for many years. But inside, one of three production lines now makes a drastically different product.

It went from fluff pulp, an absorbant material that goes into diapers and other products, to cellulose specialties fiber.

"That material is made and sold to go into flatscreen TV's, medicines, all sorts of products," explained plant manager Jack Perrett.

The conversion of that line cost Rayonier $385 million and three years of work in the plant. That investment is welcomed news to Georgia governor Nathan Deal.

"Over the past three years, we've tried to make Georgia more business friendly. That includes recruiting new companies, but also keeping and growing ones that are already here," he said.

Perrett said the investment shows the value Rayonier places on its Jesup location and the partnership with the community.

"What this expansion does is strengthen the facility's future for a long time and the 850 high paying jobs that are here too," he added.
